Used Pontoon boats - Advantages for Owning a Pontoon Boat

October 19th, 2008

Hi gang, Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway bringing you Used Pontoon Boats along with news and views from the boating industry. Here are Advantages for Owning a Pontoon Boat.

Used Pontoon boats - Advantages for Owning a Pontoon Boat

New or Used Pontoon Boats are the ultimate watercraft for lake or river adventures. These boats are versatile, spacious, comfortable, and provide a platform for swimming or fishing from. This website covers the construction and benefits of a pontoon boat, as well as suggesting ways to maximize the experience of owning a pontoon.

On this website, you will find the advantages a pontoon boat offers over other types of boats. The sheer pleasure of luxuriously cruising around a calm lake with friends and family in the height of summer is well worth the cost of the boat. A new or use pontoon boat is one of the most enjoyable ways to spend your time on the water. On top of standard boating activities such as tubing and waterskiing, Pontoon boats offer exclusive benefits:

Swimming – Pontoons provide a floating deck from which diving and swimming are easy. Most pontoon houseboats also have ladders leading into the water, allowing for swift entry and exit from the water. As well, they provide a method of ‘moving the beach,’ letting you haul anchor and move to a nicer spot if you so desire.

Tanning – Along with swimming, pontoons give a degree of privacy to sunbathers that can not be matched on any save the most secluded beach. You can steer a pontoon into the water, drop anchor, and tan away without worry of interruption. Be sure to wear a good quality sun tan lotion to protect your skin.

Sightseeing – Because of the comfort and mobility of a pontoon boat, it is the perfect water craft to go sightseeing with. The flat bottom lets you get very close to shore and up shallow rivers, variable speeds let you sight see at your own pace, and you are able to stop at any point and go home.

Receive our free Pontoon Parts, Canvas, Uphol. Brochure, Price List, FAQ & Newsletter

Fishing– The flat deck of these houseboats provide a solid surface for spin casting or fly fishing to that perfect rise of fish. Instead of longingly watching from shore as the fish jump out of reach, you can drop your anchor, turn off the motor and fish until your heart’s content. Because of the shape, waves will not splash against the hull as they do with powerboats, thereby lessening the noise.

Children– When used properly, pontoon boats are one of the safest watercraft. For this reason, families with younger children should consider buying a pontoon boat over a power boat. The steady, flat surface lets children easily walk around the boat, and the ladder lets them get in and out of the water safely.

Partying – The flat surface is perfect for dancing and socializing. For the price, you will not find another boat that allows you to safely dance while using it.

Economical to Run – Pontoon boats do not use as much fuel as other types of motor boats because they are made for cruising, not speeding. A single tank of gas can last almost twice as long in a pontoon boat as compared to a powerboat of the same size.

I’m sure you can add many more advantages for owning a new or used pontoon boat, please leave your comments. Thanks to; Pontoon boats - Relax on the water in style

Used Pontoon Boats - Palm Beach 220 Deluxe SE Pontoon Boat Review

October 16th, 2008

used pontoon boats

Hi gang, Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway bringing you Used Pontoon Boats along with news and views from the boating industry. This weeks pontoon boat review is the Palm Beach 220 Deluxe SE pontoon boat.

The Palm Beach 220 Deluxe SE is an example of what we would consider an upper mid-level pontoon at a great price. This is one of the most popular models Palm Beach puts out, and we can see why.
The rounded bow adds an attractive element of style, and the twin chaise lounges forward offer great cruising comfort. All the furniture is of Sure-Life rotomolded construction, and you’ll find plenty of storage under all the seats. The aft L-shaped lounge can be had with an aft-facing chaise to starboard or a flat seat to accommodate an optional livewell ($200), which is a convenient feature for those who like to pull out their rods from time to time. Under the forward port chaise you’ll find a dedicated cutout for a cooler, and under the starboard chaise you’ll find more storage.

The “SE” stands for stern entry, which makes this boat great for those who like to enjoy watersports. A permanent four-rung folding boarding ladder makes getting back on the boat much easier.

All the way aft you’ll find a large sunpad, one of the largest we’ve seen on this size of pontoon — and it has a raised padded lip around the outside to provide an extra measure of safety and comfort. There’s even a small hinged section of the pad that flips open to port on hinges to reveal a dedicated trash receptacle.

On the classy-looking EuroHelm you’ll find gold bezels around the gauges, an XM satellite-compatible Sony AM/FM CD stereo (with two 6.5-inch speakers) and a quick-release smoked windscreen.

Behind the helm is a large Flexsteel captain’s chair, which is one of the most comfortable helm seats you can get.

Performance

Our test of the 220 Deluxe SE took place on the St. Croix River near Stillwater, Minnesota, which is about 2.5 hours northeast of Palm Beach Marine’s headquarters in New Ulm, Minnesota. We had three people aboard and a quarter tank of fuel (7 gallons or 44 pounds) — you’ll also be interested to know that the fuel tank is built into the motor pod, which keeps the weight of the fuel over the center of the boat rather than to one side or the other. For power we had a Yamaha 90 two-stroke spinning a 3-blade aluminum prop.

With the throttle all the way forward and the engine trimmed for top speed we were able to register 26 mph on our GPS at 5,500 rpm, which is right at the top of this engine’s power limit, so the prop was well matched. The sound level was a tad high at 92 dBa, which isn’t surprising for a two-stroke — and you can expect a range of about 65 miles at top speed. Our most efficient cruising speed was 15 mph at 3,500 rpm, which yielded a cruising range of about 84 miles — and the sound level at this speed was only 78 dBa.

The craft handled well and did well pulling one- or two-person tubes. While you can only go as high as 100 hp on the craft with two 23-inch pontoons, you can go as high as 120 hp with a pair of 25-inch pontoons or as high as 150 hp with a triple-tube setup (three 23-inch tubes), so there’s plenty of room for more power if that’s what you’re looking for.

Overall

Our initial impression of the Palm Beach 220 Deluxe SE was that it was a good-looking pontoon that offered an attractive list of standard features at a reasonable price. We wouldn’t say that it’s trying to be everything to everybody, but those interested in a no-nonsense pontoon with noticeable style and generous features would do well to give this boat a look.

While the craft we tested was powered for someone who would probably spend most of his or her time cruising on a smaller lake, the ability to up the horsepower with different tube arrangements will allow you to get even more out of the 220 Deluxe SE.

Used Pontoon Boats - Pontoon Boat Trip on the Erie Canal

October 13th, 2008

Hi gang, Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway bringing you Used Pontoon Boats along with news and views from the boating industry. Here is an article on a recent pontoon boat trip on the Erie Canal.

Used Pontoon Boats - Pontoon Boat Trip on the Erie Canal

The Erie Canal is very beautiful these days. It used to be used mainly for commerce– transporting things from New York City to Buffalo and westward, but now, with the advent of highways and airplanes, the canal is used for pleasure boating.

The other day we enjoyed a day long cruise on the canal. We started out near Buffalo and went to Gasport. The highlight of the trip was going through the locks at Lockport. It is like entering a post-apocalyptic chamber, where you’re a tiny boat and there are massive 40 foot walls surrounding you. The huge doors in front of you and in back of you close, and then water rushes in (or out) so you and your boat go from the bottom this bizarre bathtub to the top– land’s edge, or vice versa, where you go sink 25 feet or so and then go onto yet another similar lock right after that. It was fascinating, like seeing the movie Waterworld come to life.

The canal’s speed limit is 5 to 10 MPH but unfortunately some of the bigger boats decided to go much faster than that, and in parts the walls of the canal are solid rock, which means boats’ wake has no where to fizzle out and we were following some of these crazy boaters with 5 foot waves threatening to make a mess of our pontoon boat as we’re in between two massive rock walls with no way out of that. The funny thing to me is we’ve been on the river and lake with our pontoon boat in all sorts of weather and waves and of all places to have “problems,” you wouldn’t expect it to be on the canal! But, when boaters don’t obey the rules, bad things can and do happen, and these boat owners who go 25 MPH on the canal should know better and/or be jailed :) I can laugh now because we weren’t hurt and survived, but if enough people break the rules, sooner or later some boat and/or boaters will pay the price, possibly even with their lives.

Parts of the canal are very scenic, with a bike path alongside, or a corn field, or lift bridges. The area around Lockport, New York is particularly picturesque. Normally, I don’t think of Lockport as a pretty place because I usually just see the strip plazas and car dealers along the main drag. Seeing a new section of Lockport from the canal though was a whole ‘nother perspective– the town actually looked artistic rather than blandly suburban.

The weather has been so nice that it looks like we will be boating again on the canal this week and going further east this time around, through Middleport onto Medina. Should be good! Thanks to Chris Pearson,The Erie Canal « What’s the 411?

Used Pontoon Boats - The New Atlanta Boat Show

October 11th, 2008

Hi gang, Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway bringing you Used Pontoon Boats along with news and views from the boating industry. The Atlanta Boat Show provides the best window shopping experience for viewing and purchasing of boats.

The Atlanta Boat Show

The annual five day event makes the George World Congress Center into a one stop market place for buying boats, yachts; including luxury yachts and houseboats, power boats, sport fishers, sailboats and personal watercrafts and pontoon boats. You can also witness a lot of fun and frolic surrounding the event with a whole lot of games related to water and showcasing latest trends in marine electronics, engines, accessories, parts and marine related sports materials with reference to water and it is spelt that there is no better time than this to buy boats and other marine stuffs for enjoying a good time on water. You only get this chance once a year to compare makes and models, secure insurance, as well as accessorizing and financing including upgrading of your boat all at one place at the same time.

The Atlanta Boat Show.com-memorizes one of the largest fleets of boats in the south east. Fishing boats, sport cruisers, bow riders, pontoon boats, other water crafts and just any thing related to boats or boating would feature in this show. This boating event of the new millennium showcases ample chances for marine recreation, purchase of house boats, sale boats, runabouts, aluminum and bass boats, plus canoes and kayaks. There are many accessory booths, which provide for discounted products and services at amazing prices including fishing equipment, electronics and outdoor travel destinations.

All hotels and travel agents can advertise bountifully on this event and include their pleasure programs and travel destinations programs by capturing an extra share of the tourist market by offering star cruises at an astronomically low price and organize all sorts of water related sporting events such as water skiing and other forms of water sports including boat races, which are run on the lines of Australia and ensure these for tourists as well as prospective customers at very low prices. A lot of discounts and other marketing schemes are in full force for enabling purchase of varieties of boats in this event. Similarly, for purchase of accessories other than boats also, varieties of discounts are offered at one place. Thus the event brings across all showcases, which concentrate on offering discounts, schemes and easy financing methodologies for purchase of boats as well as luxury items, which are of marine nature for suiting the tastes of industrialists as well as business tycoons.

The Atlanta Boat Show provides a market for the boat making industry as well as buyers and the National Marine Manufacturers Association companies. These companies produce varieties of boats, cruisers, fishing products, accessories and they have incurred one year of loss in their sales, which has to be set right during this year, therefore this year the Atlanta Boat Show management committee is sending proper intimation to all concerned to widely participate in this event and make it a grand success. This year the concentration would be more on the manufacture and sale of aluminum and steel boats, fiber glass boats, fishing materials and pontoon boats which would be showcased appropriately for proper positioning of these products at the right price with proper financing methodologies and eye catching programs and marketing schemes to ensure that the market fix up better this year and the products are chosen as exclusive as well as exquisite ones for all the customers to compare and buy.

Therefore this event should lay a lot of stress on marketing, display and advertisement, other water sport events, fun and frolic, sea food joints, good restaurants, pubs for enabling customers not only with an idea to buy, but also to enjoy the time with their family and friends. This event should enable them to make a lot of unimaginable fun for the best in the world with the best tastes, choices, and preferences.

An event of exhibition for these products to promote the companies manufacturing them should also be organized with beautiful compeers to introduce these products to prospective customers, educate them on their technical features and with the proper touch on their special prices for enabling bulk booking of these products all over the world. Not only people of the United States of America should be invited, but also bigwigs from other countries should be invited for these events and top level dignitary chief guests should also be invited for inaugurating the exhibition, especially. These efforts pave the way for boosting the sales of the products of these companies and based on the performance of these products and its experience, repeat performances would also be made, which would double the sales component for each company participating with extraordinary vigor and vitality.

Hence, it is essential to position and price these products properly and a professional marketing finesse required for giving them the desired product and ensure you deliver proper customer value and satisfaction to give real bliss, sizzle and an eye-catching performance at the Atlanta boat show event. Used Pontoon Boats - Understanding Pontoon Boats

October 8th, 2008

Hi gang, Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway bringing you Used Pontoon Boats along with news and views from the boating industry. If you are new to boats and boating, you may wonder how the pontoon boat got its name.

Pontoons are cylindrical shaped objects that have the ability to float on water, and due to this characteristic, they were often used for large structures that required staying afloat. This included buildings and bridges that had to achieve this objective, whether permanently or temporarily. With such a useful trait, it was not long before some individuals hooked onto the idea of using pontoons to construct vessels that could stay afloat on water and transport humans and goods as well. The end result was the pontoon boat.

Pontoon boats are extremely popular due to its cost effectiveness compared to owning other types of boating vehicles, with people often looking out for used pontoon boats for sale in a bid to get cheap bargains. The variety of these boats are also mind boggling, ranging from the simple pontoon boat for recreational activities like a sunny day out in the sea, to the more sophisticated hunting and fishing boats built to withstand heavy duty use while participating in the sport. Despite the differences in uses and needs, they generally consist of the same generic design, with a deck built on top of the two cylindrical pontoons. The sizes of the decks and pontoons are dependent on the activity the boat is built for, and they can be made from many different types of material, such as wood. The main objective for these boats are to be lightweight due to its various needs, but to be sturdy enough to contain a sizable number of passengers and equipment used for the trips.

A simple pontoon boat will normally not have any protective railings around its peripheral, as they are used for recreational or even patrolling purposes in neighboring rivers or swamps. However, there are an increasing number of boats which are fitted with railings as a precautionary measure. Some of these pontoon boats even have a mini shelter or cabin built over them, for those who prefer a more sheltered design. Again the designs are kept simple because of the nature of use for these boats. You will hardly ever see anyone on a pontoon boat out in the ocean, as they are simply not built for rougher terrains or environments.

At the same time many prefer getting pontoon boats due to their lower cost and they can be a great vehicle for a family trip or gathering down by the lake or river. These vehicles are also much smaller in size and easier to manage and maintain. The variety of pontoon boats for sale also show the enduring popularity of these water vehicles and they remain affordable for most individuals who would like to own one without being set back a huge amount from buying a larger and more expensive vessel like yachts. New pontoon boats can be bought for just a few hundred dollars, and many retailers now include other extra accessories which make these purchases very much a bargain.

Greg Howard is a boating enthusiast that trades in used pontoon boats for sale. He owns several pontoon boats of his own and enjoys weekend fishing trips with his family on his favourite Bennington pontoon boats.

Used Pontoon Boats - Boating Industry Boat Shows Report

October 8th, 2008

Hi gang, Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway bringing you Used Pontoon Boats along with news and views from the boating industry. Recent boating industry study reports that boat shows remain a strong selling venue for upcoming boat buyers.

Used Pontoon Boats - Boating Industry Boat Shows Report

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and the Recreational Marine Research Center at Michigan State University (MSU) this week announced findings from a year-long study demonstrating that boat shows remain a crucial step in consumers’ final decisions to purchase a boat. Initial exhibitor feedback stemming from NMMA’s 2008 fall boat shows serves to underscore the MSU study results, as many exhibitors across all four shows reported quality buyers and strong sales, despite a smaller turnout at the gate.

“As evidenced by the MSU findings, boat shows are more important than ever — particularly given the economic challenges our industry is facing,” explains Ben Wold, NMMA executive vice president. “The internet is a terrific research tool, but from our experience and what buyers tell us there’s nothing like hands-on, face-to-face time at a boat show to really get people off the boat-buying fence.  Boat shows are the strongest ‘call to action’ when it comes to communicating with potential buyers.”

Additional MSU study findings that demonstrate the power of boat shows include:

  • 86 percent said attending a show increased their desire to go boating
  • 50 percent said they went to the show with no intention of buying a boat, but became interested once onsite
  • 15 percent said they intended to buy a boat at the show
  • 5 percent said they actually bought a boat at the show
  • 73 percent said they attended the show to buy accessories
  • 65 percent said they will buy products they saw at the show
  • 47 percent said they spoke with 3 to 5 dealers at the show
  • 49 percent said they intend to follow up with a dealer they spoke with at the show
  • 45 percent said they have a household income over $100,000

What’s more, exhibitor reports out of all four NMMA fall boat shows — including the Tampa Boat Show (September 5-7), Toronto In-Water Boat Show (September 11-14), Virginia In-Water Boat Expo & Sailfest (September 12-14), and Norwalk International In-Water Boat Show (September 18-21) — confirm that despite attendance decreases at each event, exhibitors were not only pleased with the quality of show attendees, but were also successful in selling boats and related accessories.

In Toronto, exhibitors say that the decrease in attendance didn’t prevent the show from proving a success, and that those who did turn out brought with them an upbeat, positive mood in spite of growing concern over U.S. economic uncertainty.

“Over the years, the show has consistently provided a broader market to retail certain boats we failed to sell at the dealership,” explains U.S. Marine Corporation’s Bryan Down.  “This year proved to be no exception, as we retailed boats identified as ‘must-sell’ units at the show and sold even more during the follow-up process.” Thanks to Boating Industry Canada for this; Boating Industry - Study Says Boat Shows Remain Strongest Selling Venue for Ind

Used Pontoon Boats - 6 Tips on Buying a Pontoon Boat

October 6th, 2008

Hi gang, Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway bringing you Used Pontoon Boats along with news and views from the boating industry. Here are six tips to help you buy your next pontoon boat.

6 Tips for Buying Pontoon boats from a Boat Dealer

If you’re in the market for a new or used pontoon boat, you’re likely looking for dealers who sell new boats. Pontoon boat dealers abound, particularly if you live near the water.

1. When you’re choosing from a selection of new boats, pontoon boat dealers will have lots of models to show you. It’s important to narrow your choices of boat manufacturer down before you go shopping for new boats. Pontoon boat dealers typically carry several brands, but if you try to look at every brand on the market, you may get overwhelmed.

2. It’s wise to do some research about boat manufacturers on the Internet to help you narrow down your choices. Nearly every pontoon boat manufacturer has a website, and many of them will send you a catalog in the mail. Their website will often give you lots of information about the design of their boats, their warranties, and their product line. You can also typically enter your zip code and find the dealers closest to you.

3. Once you’ve narrowed your choices of boat manufacturers down to two or three, you’re ready to start shopping for new boats. Start by visiting any dealers in your area that carry more than one of your choices, if possible. If you’re lucky enough to be able to talk to a dealer who carries a couple of the boats you’re interested in, he can likely give you some good insight. Ask him to give you a comparison between the two new boats. Pontoon boat dealers should know all the details of every line they carry, and they should be able to break down the differences quickly and easily.

4. When talking to your prospective pontoon boat dealer, you should also be certain to talk to him about the warranties and service and repair. Find out if he has a service department, and ensure that he’s authorized to do service and repair on any boat you might buy.

5. Keep in mind that choosing your boat dealer is just as important as choosing your boat. Ensure that your boat dealer has been in business for a while, so that you can feel comfortable that he’ll be around to service you after the sale. It’s also important that your dealer have convenient store hours, particularly when you need to come in for service or repairs.

6. Your new boat is a major investment. You should take as much time as you need to choose both the boat and the dealer that you really want. Each year hundreds of people purchase new boats. Pontoon boat dealers should be well equipped to answer your questions, meet your needs and provide full service both during the sale process and afterward.

Take your time with your purchase, and enjoy your new boat. Thanks to; New Boats Pontoon Boat Dealer | The Better Boating Blog

Princecraft Pontoon Boats President Retires

October 3rd, 2008

Hi gang, Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway bringing you Used Pontoon Boats along with news and views from the boating industry. News out of Princecraft Pontoon Boats, President Marcel Dubois is retiring.

Princecraft Pontoon Boats - Marcel Dubois to Retire

Princecraft Pontoon Boats, a unit of Brunswick Corporation today announced that President Marcel Dubois will retire from Princecraft after more than 25 years with the company. Effective immediately, he is succeeded by Donald Dubois (no relation), who has assumed operating responsibilities during the last few months at Princecraft, a leading Canadian boat maker.

Donald Dubois is a native of Quebec City, and has an MBA from Laval University there. He brought with him to Princecraft a wealth of experience, including more than 10 years with General Electric’s Canadian subsidiary, where he was most recently vice president of sales.
“Princecraft’s reputation for quality products and service will only grow under Donald’s leadership and guidance, as both he and Marcel have been working side-by-side over these past few months to ensure continuity and a proper transition for the business,” explained Jeffrey Kinsey, president of Brunswick’s Freshwater Group, of which Princecraft is a part. “Donald has increasingly taken on more responsibilities, has gotten to know our dealers and has embraced Princecraft’s principles of operation.”
Marcel Dubois Leaves His Mark
“Marcel has seen many changes in his long career in the marine industry, and is recognized for his honesty, passion and dedication to the business,” said Dustan E. McCoy, chairman and chief executive officer of Brunswick. “Marcel brought many new innovations in the design and performance of aluminum boats and leaves with an impressive track record of successes for Princecraft. He is the consummate successful business person, who knows how to compete, win and earn profits.”
Marcel Dubois came to Princecraft in the early 1980s, when he was dispatched by then owner Alcan Aluminum to help during a slowdown in the marine industry. In 1985, he and Princecraft’s production manager at the time, Jacques Daneault, bought Princecraft from Alcan. The pair would later sell the company to Outboard Marine Corporation in 1990. Dubois and Daneault again bought back the company in 2001, and then shortly thereafter, sold the business to Brunswick.
“Marcel tracked down my home phone number and gave me a call, suggesting that Brunswick buy Princecraft,” explained McCoy. “It was the start of a great business partnership and a close friendship.”
“Marcel Dubois will continue to be involved with Princecraft on a part- time basis during the next few months, until his retirement from the company at the end of November,” McCoy said.
“The pair has been working together for some time toward this transition,” McCoy explained. “Donald Dubois has distinguished himself at Princecraft and ably assumes these responsibilities. As we finalize the leadership transition from Marcel to Donald, we wish to extend our appreciation to them both for their continued contribution to Princecraft.”
